Baby Mineral Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide SPF 35

Waxhead Baby Mineral Sunscreen is a simple, zinc oxide sunscreen made for babies, toddlers, kids, and sensitive skin. It uses 25% non-nano zinc oxide for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, with a short ingredient list and no chemical UV filters, synthetic fragrance, parabens, preservatives, or petrochemical sunscreen actives.

It is thick on purpose. The visible mineral layer helps parents see where sunscreen has been applied, so missed spots are easier to avoid during beach days, pool time, camp, daycare, boating, fishing, and backyard play.

Helpful links

Made for sensitive skin

Many baby sunscreens still include long ingredient lists, synthetic stabilizers, fragrance, or chemical UV filters. This formula keeps things simple. It is built around mineral protection, skin-barrier support, and visible coverage, which makes it a strong choice for families dealing with sunscreen sensitivity, dryness, eczema-prone skin, or repeated irritation from conventional formulas.

How it feels on skin

This is not an invisible gel sunscreen. It is a mineral cream with a protective feel and a visible zinc layer. Use small dots, spread thin, and rub gently. The finish becomes softer as it warms on the skin, while still leaving enough visibility to help track coverage.

Who it is for

  • Parents looking for a baby mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide.
  • Families who want a sunscreen for sensitive skin or eczema-prone skin.
  • Babies, toddlers, and kids who need simple outdoor sun protection.
  • Daycare, preschool, camp, beach, boating, and backyard use.
  • Adults who prefer a simple zinc oxide sunscreen for sensitive skin.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a mineral sunscreen?

Yes. This is a mineral sunscreen made with 25% non-nano zinc oxide as the active sunscreen ingredient.

Is it good for babies with sensitive skin?

Yes. It was made for babies, toddlers, kids, and families who want a simple zinc oxide sunscreen without chemical UV filters, synthetic fragrance, parabens, or preservatives.

Will it leave a white cast?

Yes. Zinc oxide is a white mineral, so this sunscreen leaves a visible mineral layer. Parents often prefer this because it helps show where sunscreen has been applied.

How is this different from tinted sunscreen?

This baby sunscreen has a visible white zinc finish. Choose Waxhead Tinted Facial Sunscreen if you want mineral protection for the face with less visible white cast.

Great for baby and the whole family!

A little goes a long way and doesn't sting or smell like some other baby brand sunscreens. Will buy again!

Incredibly Grateful

We are so incredibly grateful for your products. Our 4 year old son suffers from severe eczema and we have tried every recommended product by the National Eczema association as well as those from his dermatologist and allergist. He has horribly flared from all of them, and spent almost the entire summer inside as a result :( My friend heard about your product and we tried it on him and his skin is CLEAR and he said it doesn’t hurt or burn. Your product has literally changed his life. Thank you for what you do!

Never been burned

My child is now 15 months old and all I have used is Waxhead from 3 months on. We have never been sunburned from all of our lake days. No skin irritation. And I love knowing all the ingredients are easily read and understood.

Well ranked sunscreen but greasy, not absorbant

I came across this sunscreen after reading the Environmental Working Group’s Sunscreen Report and wanting to choose safer sunscreens for my kids & family. This sunscreen was among the best rated in terms of safety of ingredients and UVA/UVB protection. Unfortunately it’s super greasy and doesn’t absorb well. There are sunscreen smudges all over the car seats & elsewhere from transfer off bare skin.

SHOCK AND AWE!

For zinc sunscreen, I found this to leave a little less mess behind than others I’ve used. Mind you, it’s still messy. I absolutely love the very limited amount of ingredients in this product and my toddler’s sensitive skin didn’t at all react. We were on the Gulf Coast of the US for a beach trip, and it was windy; no worries about losing a spray sunscreen to the wind! It’s also a little closer to the equator and therefore easier to roast under the sun, but I was so happy that he didn’t. Granted, I reapplied faithfully every 90 minutes, and we had a sunshade. He also wore a hat and rash guard. But everything exposed didn’t burn. This stays on really well in the water. The only issue is if a suit strap or rash guard rubs against it, or you have a spot where a repetitive motion is occurring (like the crook of your arm/top of forearm while building a sand castle), you’ll lose sunblock from this area sooner simply because it’s being rubbed off. The good thing is, because this is zinc, you can see those areas getting exposed and reapply accordingly. The same thing happens with all sunscreen, but I never thought about it quite so much until confronted with a visual. Bottom line is, this is the only thing I will put on my child for extended outdoor play, and I felt very confident in its performance and the ingredients. The one thing that bothers me is that I could discern no difference between the “regular” sunscreen and the “kids” version; I purchased both. As an environmentally conscious company, I think it would make more sense to market them as one “All-family” sunscreen in a bigger bottle; it would have spared the environment the additional plastic tube, plus it’s easier to do a run of one product than change your packaging setup for two (yes, I work in consumer packaged goods). I know it’s sometimes more profitable in the short term to sell “kids” and “adults” products because you get the consumer to buy both, but when you have something that’s this safe and actually works on every member of the family...I’d lean into that. It’s a better story and ultimately, better for the planet. I hope to see them evolve!

Excellent Sun Block

This product works very well as advertised. I applied it before going out on a very sunny day and did not get any sunburn. I did not reapply as directed, but I was still protected. The only problem with this product and the reason for losing one star is that it makes your skin white no matter what you do. This is OK for arms and legs, but I looked like a clown with a white face. It may not matter for babies, but it is a bad look for me.I will continue to use this on my body and look elsewhere for face protection.

the best!

This is THE best all natural sunscreen I have tried yet, and we have tried a LOT of them. It goes on smoothly and doesn't feel super sticky. We used it at our week at the beach and no burns! Thanks for making a great sunscreen!

Love it-Don’t love the price

Love everything about this sunscreen! We use it for the whole family. The white tint is not as bad as I was expecting. Really love the ratio of oil and zinc. I have no complaints except for the price. It’s an expensive switch. Maybe they could develop a loyalty program or do discounts for returning customers. Anyway-we got what we pay for and we love it.

Surprisingly light weight, easy to use

We wanted to get a physical sunscreen (the kind that stays on the skin and reflect UV rather than get absorbed into the skin) for our one year old. My husband did a ton a research and picked this one. I have used sunscreen all my life and have always used chemical sunscreen (the kind that is absorbed by the skin). This product was a wonderful surprise—if you shake it well and rub some in your palm, it goes on the face without feeling heavy, even compared to expensive physics sunscreens I bought for myself. Also, it can be rubbed in so that it doesn’t look like I am wearing sunscreen, even though I have a medium complexion. Our baby doesn’t complain at all when we put it on her, and it doesn’t cause her any discomfort (she wouldn’t hesitate to let us know). The seller sends a helpful video on applying the sunscreen. We have used this every day before taking our baby out and feel good knowing her skin is protected. I am switching over to this sunscreen for myself, too.

Safe product

My daughter has an allergy to standard kids sunscreen due to a reaction to the acrylates. This pure zinc oxide sunscreen works great and no reaction! I read reviews of it being difficult to administer. I didn’t have a problem- it does make the skin look whiter, but then it’s just easier to see where you missed.

Works Perfectly

I spent HOURS searching for a sunscreen product that I felt safe using on my little kids, but that also worked against the sun. I have been very happy with this product. Yes, it goes on thick and my son's face is tinged white, but it works! I am so pleased! We also use the sunscreen stick, which has also been great!

Perfect Safe Sunscreen

I did a lot of research before purchasing a sunscreen I felt comfortable putting on my infant sons skin. We loved that this sunscreen has high amounts of zinc and a limited number of ingredients. We used this all summer at the beach, park, and everyday activities. We are purchasing another tube after finishing our first. It has zinc in it, so yes it it white so I don't quiet know what other reviewers were expecting....but it rubs in perfectly fine and you can't even tell once rubbed into the skin. Highly recommend!

Gentle on skin and effective coverage.

I’ve used it since they were 7months old and I’ve been very pleased with the coverage. No sun burns and it comes off easily with Castile soap. No sensitivities noted.

As advertised!

Bought this for my great nieces, aged 2 and 4, to protect them on our family beach vacation. Product worked wonderfully. After many hours in the sun during the week, not a hint of redness on either one of them!

Effective!

I loved that this sunscreen was designed to be used for babies ages 0 and up (although be sure to check with your pediatrician). I wasn’t in love with the scent and also found it to be waxy to apply but found that it was effective at protecting kids’ from sunburn.

the BEST sunscreen

Waxhead is the BEST sunscreen. Especially for our little ones with sensitive skin! They never complain of the stinging sensation as they do with other brands. Plus it goes on and stays on, so a little goes a long way. So thankful we found this product!

Solid Product that is Safe for Kids/Adults/Environment AND Effective for Sun Protection!

We recently found Waxhead and brought a selection of their products for our annual beach vacation. Turns out, we LOVE this stuff! It's safe and effective. The zinc sunscreen is white and will turn you white, BUT rub it in good and it does lessen the white factor. Would rather be stylin' with white tint than suffering with burnt skin. It's a bonus that this sunscreen is safe for the environment and for baby/kids/grandma etc. We all used this sunscreen and were very pleased. Also, love supporting a small business that cares and is doing what they can to provide a product that is much needed!

Best & Safest Sunscreen on the market.

It's a bit hard to rub in and leaves your face white but it lasts forever and most importantly protects you from burning. Will most definitely continue to buy. Easier to put on than the stick version. Worth every penny.

All natural, non-toxic

Love that is natural so we feel comfortable applying it to our little one, and it's safe for the environment.

Nice consistency

I used this on my baby for a carrinian vacation. I was looking for sunscreenthat is natural and without sunflower oil as my little one got sentisized to it. I really liked this sinscreen especially the consistency it goes on much easier than badger sunscreens which are little bit thicker. It was easier to apply. It does go on white bit i like that for baby so i can aee if i missed any spots. One thing im not so sure of is that i like that vit d is added. Not sure the pirpose of it.

Recommend for with sensitive skin.

I bought this when I was looking for another tube of sun screen. My younger daughter has very sensitive skin. I wanted something with a set of ingredients I can at least read, I hope her eczema won't freakout.Fast forward, the texture of this sunscreen is like Desitin in a lot of olive oil. Warm up the sunscreen in your palms and it will apply a lot more easily. It has a slight oil smell nothing too outrageous. It leaves a white residue, with good 20 seconds of rubbing will disappear. Its not the best feeling lotion in the world but all mineral sunscreen are like that.Longevity wise, I can't say it stood against my very active toddler. She sweated off the sunscreen after an hour or so running. But it was very hot and humid that day, she was indoors and from parking lot to car. This sunscreen slitted off of her, but it's expected for my older. I put this on my 10 month old, I think it was a bit suffocating but it didn't set her eczema off big time. Little patches came back up a bit but it was also very humid for an entire week. I think anything will summon some patches. This overall works well enough as a mineral sunscreen. I can't speak to how well it works against a burn as neither of my girls were out for hours.
