Skin is actually nourished under the protection of our non-nano zinc-oxide field tin formulation made from just 4 certified organic and mineral sunscreen ingredients.
Regardless of marketing messages, it’s the actual ingredients that matter. We use only superior quality ingredients.
Our products are FDA-approved and contain certified organic, edible-grade inactive ingredients. See the roster of all our ingredients.
Instead of just eliminating oxybenzone or octinoxate, Waxhead sunscreens don’t contain ANY petrochemicals. Instead we use non-nano zinc oxide as our sole active ingredient.
This means all our products are truly reef safe, completely safe for marine systems, lakes, reefs and fish (and humans).
Yes, some. When used properly, zinc oxide gives skin a visible whitish hue. We offer tinted versions to provide a more skin-colored hue.
Technically 3 years from purchase, but the useful life of our sunscreens has no practical limit, since our active ingredient zinc oxide is a mineral and does not lose its sunscreen capabilities over time, EVER. However, the FDA requires all sunscreen products to list a 3-year shelf life (mainly because petrochemical active ingredients in common sunscreens degrade quickly, even on the shelf). Regardless, if you ever feel a Waxhead product has spoiled, just let us know, and we'll send you a free replacement.
The answer depends on what areas you're covering. If face only, one small field tin will deliver roughly 12 applications, or the body 2 or possibly 3 applications.
Our prices represent a true cost to the world. We source our top-grade ingredients only from reputable, fair-trade, cruelty-free companies that are almost entirely US-based. We don’t purchase ingredients from countries with questionable labor or production practices. Learn more.

I use the sport sunscreen on my face for running, and even after a couple hours of sweating it doesn't run into my eyes. It also has a faint vanilla smell rather than a chemical smell, which is nice around my nose and mouth.
Since this is more similar to a thick body butter, it's harder to spread than a traditional liquid sunscreen. However, it's pros outweigh that con. I love that the packaging is travel friendly but most importantly it is recyclable. Usually with twist openers, I find it gets stuck but this was easy to open and close. I only use this formula on my face since it can make the product spread since its hotter than your arms. I wouldn’t suggest this for body use since overall without high body heat, it makes it difficult to spread which feels like pulling on skin. Instead I ordered the gallon size of zinc sunscreen for my body since its liquid formula should work better. For constructive feedback, I would love to see one larger size instead of 5 minis and maybe some tweaks to the formula to make it more spreadable without compromising the SPF.
I found it didn’t take much product in order to do the job, probably because it isn’t watered down with other ingredients. Tip: Heat the sunscreen up with your fingers before spreading it. Also, if you are looking to reduce the plastic in your life, you will love the metal tin. It screws together well and had no leakage problems.

Our staff favourite!
Thick and tough, our sunscreen takes a little effort to apply. A little goes a long way and you can see exactly where you’re applying it.
Rub your fingertips around the sunscreen in the tin. The warmth of your body will warm up the sunscreen and make it easier to apply.
Put sunscreen onto fingertips and apply it in small dots on sections of the body.
Once a section is dotted, continue to spread and thin out into an almost invisible layer across your skin.
After you’ve spread out the sunscreen, you can further rub in the cream to a thinner coverage and basically eliminating the white on your skin. Our sunscreen will not fully absorb into skin like chemical sunscreens, even though after rubbing it can appear transparent.
We are thoughtfully committed to health, sustainable practices, and the environment. We blend modern science and old school sense to design eco-friendly tools to help humans thrive in the sun without worrying about skin cancer or toxins. Choose Waxhead for your skin, your health, and your planet. The sunscreen you use matters and make no mistake, Waxhead is THE best choice you can make for healthy living in the sun.
Regardless of marketing messages, it’s the actual ingredients within a sunscreen formulation that matter. Waxhead ingredients are without equal, from top-grade non-nano zinc oxide to our roster of certified organic inactive ingredients.
Instead of just eliminating oxybenzone or octinoxate, Waxhead sunscreens don’t contain ANY petrochemicals, meaning they’re TRULY reef safe. In environmental terms, user-borne petrochemicals, many from products labeled as reef-safe (which is an unregulated term), account for an oil spill the size of the Exxon Valdez every three years.
Our products don’t just avoid harming skin. They actively nourish it, with certified organic ingredients like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil, natural vitamin E and vitamin D, shea butter, and beeswax. After a day of wearing Waxhead in the sun, your skin actually feels good.
We make our clothing from fabric of 100% recycled plastic fibers, without any added dyes. Our fair-trade production processes use 65% less energy and reduce greenhouse emissions by 35%.
Actually, we pretty much cherish them. When they have questions about sunscreen, whether we make it or not, we give them our full unbiased info and opinions. In the rare instances when they have problems or complaints concerning our products, we do all we can to make them happy.
Besides making human-friendly, eco-friendly products, we give a portion of our profits and our time to support well-run coastal and oceanic conservation and cleanup organizations. We consider this vital to help preserve fun sunny days for generations to come.
