Zinc Oxide Sunscreen - Vitamin Enriched

Family-safe mineral sunscreen proven in real sun. This concentrated zinc sunscreen for the face and body is made with six food-grade ingredients. It is water-resistant, reef-safe, biodegradable, and trusted by parents and outdoor people.

Why choose this sunscreen

  • 25% non-nano zinc oxide for broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
  • Six ingredients. Food-grade and non-toxic. No petrochemicals or synthetic fragrance.
  • Safe for kids from 6 months. Gentle, tear-free, and fragrance-free.
  • Built for heat, sweat, and saltwater. Real protection in the Florida sun.
  • Reef-safe and biodegradable sunscreen with certified organic inactive ingredients.
  • Concentrated formula. A little goes a long way for mineral sunscreen for the body or face.
  • Non-comedogenic. Good choice as sunscreen for acne-prone skin.
  • Protects new and healed ink. Popular as a tattoo sunscreen.

Skin Defense + Simplicity

This sunscreen mineral formula uses 25% non-nano zinc oxide to block UV at the surface. No chemical filters. No eye sting. Vitamins D and E support skin while you are out in the sun. The result is a zinc oxide sunscreen families trust for beach days, sports, and daily use on face and body.

What you will notice

Day 1 – Thick on contact so you can see coverage. Rub to a thinner, natural finish. Skin feels protected, not slick.

Day 7 – Holds up in heat, sweat, and swimming. Reapply after water exposure or heavy sweat.

Day 30 – Becomes the default grab-and-go for kids, workouts, yard work, and long beach or boat days.

How to use

  • Knead the tube before first use. Natural separation is normal with mineral sunscreen.
  • Dot on small sections. Start with pea-size amounts.
  • Spread thin. Then rub to reduce visible whiteness.
  • Use more on high exposure areas. Reapply every 2 hours outdoors and after swimming, sweating, or toweling.

Who it is for

  • Parents who want a sunscreen kids do not fight. No sting and no chemical smell.
  • Outdoor people who need reliable zinc sunscreen for long exposure.
  • People needing mineral face sunscreen that does not trigger breakouts.
  • Anyone who wants a clean, non-toxic sunscreen for daily protection.

Who it is not for

  • Shoppers who want a sheer, invisible finish out of the tube.
  • Those who dislike thicker, concentrated SPF textures.
  • Anyone who refuses a visible mineral look during application.

Real proof

“You will look like the undead, but remain the unburnt … By the end of the day, you can tell which one actually works.” — Verified review from the Florida Gulf Coast.

Frequently asked questions

Will it leave a white cast?

Yes, a light mineral sunscreen will likely be left on the skin. Rub to a thinner layer for a natural finish. Many parents prefer seeing where zinc sunscreen provides coverage on kids.

Is it safe for kids?

Yes. It is a non-toxic sunscreen with non-nano zinc oxide as the only active ingredient. It is safe for ages 6 months and up, gentle, and tear-free.

Will it clog pores?

No. It is non-comedogenic and a strong choice as a sunscreen for acne-prone skin. Apply thin and rub in well.

How water-resistant is it?

Water-resistant to 80 minutes. Reapply after swimming, sweating, or toweling.

Is it reef safe and biodegradable?

Yes. This is a biodegradable sunscreen with no oxybenzone or octinoxate. Reef-safe mineral ingredients only.

Can I use it on tattoos?

Yes. Zinc oxide provides reliable protection for fresh and healed ink. Many customers use it as a tattoo sunscreen on sunny days.

Face or body?

Both. It works as a mineral face sunscreen and as a mineral sunscreen body. Consider our mineral-tinted-sunscreen for daily wear for a sheer cosmetic finish.

How long does a tube last?

Face-only users get roughly 75 to 100 applications. Whole body coverage is about 20 to 30 applications, depending on size and sun.

Try it for 30 days

Best sunscreen for water sports!

I recently took a trip to Mexico and was desperate for a clean, healthy, sunscreen that would work with my snorkel mask. Waxhead to the rescue! Shipped in time and even called me to ask questions about my order! The products were great providing me sun coverage without stinging my eyes or having a slippery mask problem. Thank you also for the great lip coverage products! Highly recommend not only supporting this family business but the great products! Waxhead fan here!

Solid sunscreen! A little goes a long way. We needed an extremely clean formula due to eczema issues. This one is perfect only being 6 ingredients and made without shea, coconut, fragrance, etc. It is a thick white paste that is hard to blend in and will definitely be noticeable, but it was worth the sun protection and avoiding a flare. We also used this for other members with vitiligo and needing ultra protection against the non-melanated areas. Everyone brought their own sunscreen, but still gravitated toward this throughout the week. Will definitely purchase again!

Moisturizing and effective

My skin was still very itchy and dried out/peeling from being burnt when I used this product. Not only did it prevent sunburn but it also gave me some itch relief and re-hydrated my skin a bit. Use sparingly... the instructions say to "apply liberally" but this stuff is thick out of the bottle. Shake it well or kneed it and then smear it till it's thin and you can "see" it but not feel it.

Incredibly Grateful

We are so incredibly grateful for your products. Our 4 year old son suffers from severe eczema and we have tried every recommended product by the National Eczema association as well as those from his dermatologist and allergist. He has horribly flared from all of them, and spent almost the entire summer inside as a result :( My friend heard about your product and we tried it on him and his skin is CLEAR and he said it doesn’t hurt or burn. Your product has literally changed his life. Thank you for what you do!

BEST SUNSCREEN EVER!!

My skin is dry & sensitive, and very light. This is by far the best sunscreen alone or under makeup, very moisturizing but not greasy. I use both the un-tinted and tinted versions, and if you tend to have a pinker skin tone, you will love the color.

Works well

Works well. Somewhat difficult to rub in. Extremely expensive, but considering it’s probably the cleanest formulated organic sunscreen you can find, I’m willing to pay the high price to feel comfortable with what I’m putting on my baby’s skin.

Sun is stronger, but Waxhead can handle!

Back again to let you know Waxhead is still doing the job. 6 months later, after another hot (getting hotter) summer under the blazing (more blazing) Hawaiian sun, and it's keeping me alive. Latest dermatology exam showed no new lesions where Waxhead was applied. Had two small pre-cancer spots on back of my throwing hand that I didn't put any on while playing softball. Luckily, a blast of liquid nitrogen froze them off, and I'm good to go for another 4 months. But Waxhead will cover all exposed skin from now on. Especially helpful on nose, ears, and neck. Also comforting to know that whatever washes off when swimming or surfing is not harming the ocean.Climate change deniers can stick their heads in the sand, but better spread Waxhead on their butts, because the sun is definitely stronger and UV rays more intense.Burn, baby, burn is not just a phrase from the 60's!*************************************************************************************************************************That headline is no joke. Waxhead Skin Defense is the most effective sunscreen I've ever used and believe me, after 35 years in the Hawai'ian sun, burning and peeling more times than I can count, and 17 skin-cancer surgeries, it's no hype. No other brand I've used comes close in preventing further damage. 5 years of Waxhead with no sunburns are proof.Yes, it does take extra effort to spread on your skin and leaves a slight white tinge. But that's because the 25% zinc oxide is providing the needed protection and the beeswax and extra virgin olive oil are helping keep it in place. If you knead the tube before use to the right consistency and rub it in properly, a little goes a long way. And you won't look like a mime. More importantly, you won't look like a lobster two hours later. Or have to see your dermatologist four times a year.So I only gave it 4 stars for ease of application, but would give 6 stars if possible for value and sun protection. If there were categories for all-natural ingredients and environmental safety there'd be two more 6's.

You will look like the undead, but remain the unburnt.

Look, I’ll cut straight to the chase: I wore a sarong, a cover up over my suit, a wide brimmed hat, and sunglasses, and slathered this all over my body. As I tend to favor dark colors, I basically looked like Wednesday Addams on the gulf coast beach we stuck our pop-up on. But as I have burned pretty badly in the past, especially in locales closer to the equator (I’m looking at you, Jamaica), I decided enough is enough. It was time to stop giving a s**t about seeing zinc sunblock on my skin and whether I looked like the walking dead, and to start giving a s**t about skin cancer from the damage, which has the potential to literally make me one of the walking dying.Granted, I was under the shade most of the day, but I was also not for significant chunks of time. I also was sweaty and it was June in the Gulf of Mexico, and I helped my kid build a sandcastle in the full blazing 12 pm sun (who doessss that???) I reapplied a few times; this does rub off against rash guard sleeves, straps, etc. However, every sunblock does that.My husband wanted to be a Cool Guy and use the chemical big-brand spray stuff on his legs. I felt a little sorry for him as the wind cut through the beach and most of it blew away before it hit his skin, but I let him make his sovereign choice. By the end of the day, those were the spots that were roasted...his zinc-blocked spots were fine. He admitted at the end of the trip: “Well, you can tell which one actually works.” Yes, yes you can.The only complaint I have (which I posted on my review of the kids version of this sunblock) is that it seems wasteful to market separate products that are the same ingredients and I’m guessing the same formula. If they’re different formulas, it would help to know that, but I would have been happier carrying one mondo tube of this for the whole family vs. two smaller tubes of environmentally unfriendly plastic. Simplicity here would be helpful! I also purchased the stick, and liked its thicker coverage for some things (nose, scalp, ears, etc) but the “oh look, a mime” factor on that is pretty high. This was my preferred version of the sunblock as it’s easier to slather on the whole body. Great ingredients and I look forward to seeing how this company evolves. My favorite zinc sunblock I’ve tried; will buy again!

Works, but you will be white af

This stuff works great for blocking the sun, it just makes you very white. It will also give your beard/hair a “salt and pepper” look, but who doesn’t need to look a little wiser sometimes

Not Great for Surfing

Applied it pretty heavily prior to surfing from 9-11am in the morning (late August). Got a pretty good burn on my face and neck despite the application. My Banana Boat 50 Waterproof works better - I guess there may be a reason that add the harmful chemicals....

Not for me

This sunscreen is not for me at all. It makes you actually glow white - you'll look more like a freshly glossed white mercedes vs a chrome white tesla (like other white sunscreens). It is also not made for the water so no sweating or swimming allowed! It is moisturizing though

A
Angela
Still is somewhat white

This still is white and shows some on skin like my past zinc products but that is to be expected. This one is better than the other brands I have tried because it is less drying to your skin. It has moisturizers.

Love this sunscreen!

I’ve been trying out various natural/healthy sunscreen brands, and this one is by far my favorite! It has a great texture and actually rubs into your skin. Of course, you’ll be a little white, but I’ve found that all zinc sunscreens do that no matter what. Will absolutely be buying again!

Good Sun Protection

This seems to be water resistent, I went in the pool and didn't get burned. My husband doesn't like it because it leaves you with a white cast, but if that means I'm not putting a lot of harmful chemicals on my skin and works, then I'm good with it. The fact that it is reef safe and biodegradable gets a big thumbs up too!

QUALITY PRODUCT

Always good to purchase a product that is not filled with junk ingredients. I always go to EWG to get their rating, and this one rates right up there. It is easy to use, if used at directed. I just place a dot in several areas of my face and spread it out so it is not caulky looking, it works GREAT! Thank you for a quality product that not only protects our skin, but is not filled with dangerous chemicals.

Good stuff!

The sunscreen works really well—and it’s safe for the marine life and our skin. It does take time to apply because it is thick.
