Reef Safe Zinc Sunscreen Stick (3.7oz)

A family-size zinc oxide sunscreen built for real exposure. Thick, durable, and reef-safe. This mineral sunscreen stick protects babies, kids, and adults through sweat, saltwater, and sun.

Why choose this sunscreen

  • 25% non-nano zinc oxide for true broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
  • Only four food-grade ingredients, safe enough for baby sunscreen use.
  • Biodegradable, reef safe sunscreen with zero oxybenzone, octinoxate, or petrochemicals.
  • Applies thick for visible coverage that stays put through sweat, swim, and salt.
  • 3.7oz family size is up to 7x larger than typical sunscreen sticks.
  • Non-comedogenic, unscented, and ideal for sensitive or allergy-prone skin.

Protection parents trust

Outdoor families choose this kids sunscreen because it simply works. One application covers faces, ears and necks. No stinging or burning eyes. It’s thick for a reason: visible zinc coverage is the only way to guarantee full protection under harsh sun.

Parents love it’s safe for toddlers and babies, while outdoor pros rely on its staying power during full days on the water. Whether you’re fishing, gardening, surfing, or coaching soccer, this mineral sunscreen face stick holds up when others melt away.

What you’ll notice

Day 1 – Goes on thick, giving you visible protection. No burning, no chemical smell.

Day 7 – You trust it. It stays through sweat and surf. Kids stop complaining because it doesn’t sting.

Day 30 – One stick and still going strong. You realize you’ve used less, burned less, and worried less.

Real protection for real conditions

Most drugstore sunscreens wash off in water or break down in sweat. Waxhead’s zinc sunscreen uses a dense, water-resistant base of organic coconut oil and beeswax to stay on your skin, not in the ocean. It’s designed for people who live outside.

Every stick is made in the USA with non-nano zinc oxide and a short ingredient list. Dermatologists call it “physical protection,” which blocks UV radiation on contact instead of soaking into your skin.

How to use

  • Push the stick up slightly. Tap the bottom on a hard surface to slide it back down if it sticks.
  • Dot directly onto face, nose, ears, and other high-exposure areas.
  • Spread with fingers to an even layer. You’ll see a faint white tint—proof of full coverage.
  • Reapply every 2 hours outdoors, or after swimming or toweling off.

Ingredients

  • Non-nano Zinc Oxide (25%) — Offers full broad UVA/UVB defense and stays stable under sunlight.
  • Organic Coconut Oil — Moisturizes and nourishes while helping the sunscreen glide smoothly.
  • Organic Beeswax — Locks in hydration and adds sweatproof staying power.
  • Organic Vanilla Extract — Natural antioxidant and antibacterial support with a soft scent.

Each ingredient is food-grade, biodegradable, and reef safe. No synthetics, preservatives, or petrochemicals.

Who it’s for

  • Parents wanting a kids sunscreen that’s safe, gentle, and proven in real conditions.
  • Outdoor athletes needing long-wear, sweat-resistant coverage.
  • Boaters, gardeners, anglers, and surfers who spend hours in direct sun.
  • Eco-conscious consumers seeking a biodegradable sunscreen that protects reefs and skin alike.

Who it’s not for

  • Anyone expecting a sheer or lotion-like finish. This is a thick, stay-put shield.
  • Those who dislike visible coverage or prefer cosmetic-style SPFs.
  • Allergic to coconut or beeswax.

Frequently asked questions

Will it make my skin white?

Yes, slightly. That white tint ensures complete zinc coverage. The same reason lifeguards and parents trust it. For a more natural tone, try our tinted zinc sunscreen stick.

Is it reef safe?

This reef-safe sunscreen contains only biodegradable minerals and organic oils. No oxybenzone, octinoxate, or microplastics that harm coral reefs.

Can I use it on my face daily?

Yes. It’s a mineral sunscreen for face that doubles as a protective daily SPF for sensitive skin. Ideal for cheeks, nose, and forehead, where you burn fastest.

Is it safe for babies and toddlers?

Yes. It’s made with food-grade ingredients and non-nano zinc oxide—perfect as a toddler sunscreen or baby sunscreen.

Does it wash off in the water?

It’s highly water-resistant and stays through swim, surf, or sweat sessions.

How long does one stick last?

About 75–100 face applications—or an entire season of daily outdoor use. That’s up to 7x more than typical 0.5oz sticks.

What’s the scent?

A subtle, natural vanilla aroma. No synthetic fragrance, no chemical smell.

Try it for 30 days

If you’re unhappy with your first stick, we’ll refund you—no questions asked. We stand behind every batch of Waxhead.

This is a great value, very effective, and it is easy to make your own tinted version for face

I have found that zinc oxide sticks work better than anything else for protecting my face from sunburn. We are a family of “beach rats” who spend a lot of time in the sun, surfing and SUPing, and this is a very nice formula. I will be repurchasing. The price seems high, but it is actually an excellent value, when you consider that you are getting almost 4 oz of product here; with most face sticks, you get around 0.5 oz, on average. If you don’t love the “ghost face” look, but find that the cocoa powder tint is too dark for you, it is very easy to tint to your exact shade. I sliced off a small piece from the top of the stick, about .33 oz, microwaved on very low power for 20 seconds to soften it, and then blended with some of my loose mineral foundation (it’s just extra physical sunscreen) until it was the shade I wanted it. I used an empty mineral makeup container; something leak-proof is best, because it can get really soft if sitting in a hot beach bag.

Working well in Fiji❤️

Third day in Figi & it seems to be working well. I wanted a non poisonous/chemical option for the resort and snorkeling.

So glad our zinc sunscreen stick is keeping you protected on the reef and in the water. That's exactly why we formulated it: clean, reef-safe protection you can feel good about anywhere in the world. Enjoy every snorkel! ☀️

Best Sun Defense Products organic/Non-Nano Zinc

I used to purchase Manda, but it was discontinued. Waxhead offers only 4 organic ingredients. Works to block uva/uvb rays at 96%-98% at 30upf the white smells like vanilla and the tinted smells like chocolate. This coverage for surfing sessions lasts all day. Shannon, the owner, easy to work with and stands behind the product with scientific laboratory testing of this product before it was released. Best safety and efficacy. I wear it daily!

Great sunscreen

We own a headboat and charter boat business. My children work on the boats. Three of the four have tried the sunscreen and really like it. It has prevented them from getting burned. The sunscreen also passed the bait test. In other words, the fish still went for the bait even after the sunscreen was applied using their hands and then touching the bait. We would love to see the sunscreen in a higher SPF.

Excellent protection

I purchased this product for my 6 year old nephew who burns easily. He attends swim lessons and loves the water. I wanted to make sure he was protected from the harmful rays while he enjoyed one of his favorite activities. This sunscreen is amazing. After 4 hours in the pool at swim camp for 5 days straight, sweet boy has no sign of burns. It is easy to apply and has no awful odor. I highly recommend this sunscreen.

Good sunscreen

This is a rather heavy sunscreen but really does the job. It is a zinc type so you do have to be careful about rubbing it on especially arms and face.I did notice my dark Sun spots fading on my driving arm and side of my face.It is very worth buying and using!

Works great

Waterproof & smells great. I use some copper-tint mica powder on top when I want some color, otherwise it's a little white. It's spf 30, but it works for an hour in the water no problem for me with no burns. No weird ingredients and it's reef safe. I highly recommend this product for water sports like surfing.

Stays on & EASY for/with kids

3 reasons I love it: #1 It stays on forever. #2 It’s easy to apply. Rolls on like a giant deodorant so no mess of squeezing it out & getting all over everything. #3 Great with kids. Mine hate dealing w liquid sunblock, but are totally fine w using the stick. And it’s obvious where it’s on so I only have to help with where they missed spots - much easier than holding onto them as they try to bolt when I’m applying it all.Only reason not to like: it’s too good at staying on. I have to make sure wipe off any remaining before we get in it the car or I’ll be will wind up having to sponge it off the car seats later. But it doesn’t stain so whatever.

Ghost face and good stuff.

Product is a great sunscreen. Really great. For all that is good in the world, use this stuff sparingly or you will look like you have never seen the sun.Otherwise, pasty white, ghost white, or any other similar appearance is what you will get.DO NOT put it on your face without being in front of a mirror or you will scare the bejeezuhs out of people. Ask me how I know.

Great sunscreen and better for your body!

I’ve been looking for a cleaner sunscreen and this is it! It’s reef safe and doesn’t clog my pores. It spreads well, but will leave a white cast on your skin. This is my new go to sunscreen.

Love this stuff

This is the only stuff my son can wear to the beach. It stays out of his eyes and prevents burn on his very white skin.

The best out there

My fair skinned, blonde haired daughter is in the sun all the time with surfing and this is the ONE product that keeps her from getting sunburned. We love it so much!

Best I’ve Tried

I hate the feeling of sunscreen. It feels slimy and sticky. This didn’t feel that way. Took more to rub it into the skin, but I wouldn’t go back to the other stuff. The only thing is I wish they had a stronger SPF available. My gf keeps telling me this isn’t strong enough. I still like it regardless.

great for travel

No liquid, works great, and reef safe. What more could you want? (Plus it's a fair price)

Good for what it is

I like this sunscreen because of how safe and simple it is. I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and am prone to eczema if I use anything at all weird. This sunscreen doesn't upset my skin, so that's a big plus. However I'm a little disappointed in the functionality/ease of use for this sunscreen stick. It comes of the stick kind of clumpy and thick so you have to spread it a little bit by hand and if you rub it in too much, it doesn't work very well. I learned that the hard way and got a little burnt through the sunscreen the first two times I used it. Even though I re-applied as directed. Also that being said, in order to apply a thick enough layer you have to use a lot, making me think this stick won't last me the whole summer, and with how much it costs that's kind of a bummer. It's also very hard to completely wash off at the end of the day. Especially washing it off your hands after applying. But I find that to be a very minor bother because it's not gross and sticky like some other sunscreens. So I'll continue to use this along with sun protective clothing as a back up because I really value how safe it is for my skin and the environment.

An Honest Unicorn

This is exactly as advertised: natural, healthy, and effective. If you are trying to avoid the chemicals that are in 99% of the other supposedly natural products, even the baby ones, this is it. Compare labels. I put it in a little tub and use a makeup brush to blend it on my face and chase it with a bronzer. I plan to use it when my skin is sensitive after a peel.I suspect the tinted one will irritate some people because cocoa is irritating (take it from someone who tried cocoa as natural eyeshadow).

All around sun protection!

Great for the Littles! Easy to apply all over and stays on as long as you need to re-apply according to directions! Wouldn't buy or use anything else!

Great product, but mixed feelings. Waterproof AF!

I was traveling to KY for a summer event and needed something to protect me from the crazy hot sun since I was going to be outside practically all day for the full weekend. I love the stick form because it's great for travel and can go in your carry-on easily. There is a lot of product in this in comparison to the other small sticks you get from the other major brands so I was quite happy with that...however, it does take some getting used to.Here are some caveats:Not easy to spread. Took me FOREVER to apply this evenly and where I didn't look like a big streaky mess.Does not go clear...you can rub it in quite a bit but you will still come out looking like a pale ghost. Not necessarily white, but crazy pale looking. It gets all over everything...so be wary if you get the tinted version. It is SOOOOO waterproof. Which is great if you're doing water sports or whatever, but when you're trying to wash it off your hands or clothes, it barely budges.Good things:Does not get greasy or drip in eyes, etc. It stays put.Extremely moisturizing. No sunburn at all! It works! No smell.

Great protection and portability

Bought the stick to bring along on my carry on for vacations. now i use this for day trips to the beach. it is easy to spread.... only small dabs are needed or it will be too thick. just take your time and spread it around. or use your fingers and get small dabs.... great method for your face and neck.

Good not great

Great sun protection, I wish it was easier to spread, it’s not as solid as I hoped, but it definitely won’t go to waste, but I won’t buy it again

Holy Cow It Works!

I have a history of skin cancer and I'm white as white can get so I burn easily. Went to Tokyo during the hottest heat wave on record. My family and I were dying of heat stroke but we didn't get burnt! We were outside all day walking around in our sweat and the paste never washed off. It also smells like honey which is nice. Never again buying any other sunscreen to protect my skin. I also have eczema and my face reacts poorly to sunscreen applied to my face. No reaction with this paste. 10/10 highly recommended.

Awesome sunscreen for travel, doesn't count as a liquidd

This is an amazing product for air travel as it doesn't count towards liquid limits. Great sunprotection, stayed on after swimming. No long list of questionable chemicals.
