Skin is actually nourished under the protection of our tinted facial sunscreen made from just 9 certified organic and mineral sunscreen ingredients.
Regardless of marketing messages, it’s the actual ingredients that matter. We use only superior quality ingredients.
Our products are FDA-approved and contain certified organic, edible-grade inactive ingredients. See the roster of all our ingredients.
Instead of just eliminating oxybenzone or octinoxate, Waxhead sunscreens don’t contain ANY petrochemicals. Instead we use non-nano zinc oxide as our sole active ingredient.
This means all our products are truly reef safe, completely safe for marine systems, lakes, reefs and fish (and humans).
We've added natural iron oxide to conceal the typically white appearance of zinc oxide. When used properly, zinc oxide sunscreen gives skin a visible hue.
Technically 3 years from purchase, but the useful life of our sunscreens has no practical limit, since our active ingredient zinc oxide is a mineral and does not lose its sunscreen capabilities over time, EVER. However, the FDA requires all sunscreen products to list a 3-year shelf life (mainly because petrochemical active ingredients in common sunscreens degrade quickly, even on the shelf). Regardless, if you ever feel a Waxhead product has spoiled, just let us know, and we'll send you a free replacement.
Waxhead uses absolutely NO animal testing. We test our sunscreens on willing humans using federally mandated FDA sunscreen testing protocol in order to accurately calculate our products’ SPFs for labeling. Our tinted facial sunscreens are also vegan.
Our prices represent a true cost to the world. We source our top-grade ingredients only from reputable, fair-trade, cruelty-free companies that are almost entirely US-based. We don’t purchase ingredients from countries with questionable labor or production practices. Learn more.
Waxhead products are designed using top-level biochemistry knowledge.
We use a complete holistic appreciation for how our formulations react with skin in the sun and how they affect our environment.
We pretty much cherish our customers. When they have questions about skincare, we give our full unbiased info and opinions.

I use this on my face, hands, and arms, if needed. My old tinted reef safe sunscreen was discontinued, and I didn’t think I would find something I liked as much, but Waxhead is a winner. I, also, use a whitish mostly clear zinc around my eyes and on my chin (to lighten), then dab on tinted Waxhead to cover my whole face. It is lightweight and blends great!
I’ve been allergic to all sunscreen with an SPF of 15 and higher my whole life… I purchased this because of the ingredients and it works great! No allergies for me! It’s reef safe and they’re very conscious of what they put in the tube. I’m very pleased and have recommended this to many friends
I’m a fan of both the tinted tube and untinted zinc stick Waxhead formulas. It seems expensive, but it’s an excellent value for how much product you get. I thought the tinted would be too dark on me, but it actually looks really natural, and eliminates the ghost face look. A MUST for surfers and those who SUP.Great company with great ethics and excellent customer service.
I’m on the fence about this product. Some of the pros are it seems to have great SPF coverage and protects my skin from burning and damage. I also love the simple and clean ingredients and that it is reef safe and doesn’t have the nasty chemical sunscreens in it like oxybenzone or avobenzone. However, there are a few cons. It is very thick and hard to get off even with doing an oil based cleanse and a regular face cleanse. Since it is so thick, it is also clogging and has caused a few breakouts. The color doesn’t match my skin type so it doesn’t blend in and is noticeable. I am on the fairer side. A little does go a long way but it is pricey for the amount. Which is why I will probably be going back to what I have originally used once I have used this up.
I usually don’t like zinc sunscreen despite the sun protection and amount of time I spend in the water, but found something I like here. Feels great on the skin and EWG’s rating is a selling point. I like the tinted so my face isn’t super white. I mix them with white and other pigment to create proper tint.
Thick and tough, our sunscreen takes a little effort to apply. A little goes a long way and you can see exactly where you’re applying it.
Our sunscreens lack chemicals to keep ingredients homogenized, so a bit of water may squirt from tube varieties before the thicker cream appears. This is totally OK, and there’s nothing wrong with your sunscreen. Just close the lid and kneed the tube, which should reduce (but not totally prevent) any water separation.
Put sunscreen onto fingertips and apply it in small dots on sections of the face.
Once a section is dotted, continue to spread and thin out into an almost invisible layer across your skin.
After you’ve spread out the sunscreen, you can further rub in the cream to a thinner coverage and basically eliminating the white color on your skin. It takes a few more seconds, but you can achieve complete coverage without any white residue. Our sunscreen will not fully absorb into skin like chemical sunscreens, even though after rubbing it can appear transparent.
We are thoughtfully committed to health, sustainable practices, and the environment. We blend modern science and old school sense to design eco-friendly tools to help humans thrive in the sun without worrying about skin cancer or toxins. Choose Waxhead for your skin, your health, and your planet. The sunscreen you use matters and make no mistake, Waxhead is THE best choice you can make for healthy living in the sun.
Regardless of marketing messages, it’s the actual ingredients within a sunscreen formulation that matter. Waxhead ingredients are without equal, from top-grade non-nano zinc oxide to our roster of certified organic inactive ingredients.
Instead of just eliminating oxybenzone or octinoxate, Waxhead sunscreens don’t contain ANY petrochemicals, meaning they’re TRULY reef safe. In environmental terms, user-borne petrochemicals, many from products labeled as reef-safe (which is an unregulated term), account for an oil spill the size of the Exxon Valdez every three years.
Our products don’t just avoid harming skin. They actively nourish it, with certified organic ingredients like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil, natural vitamin E and vitamin D, shea butter, and beeswax. After a day of wearing Waxhead in the sun, your skin actually feels good.
We make our clothing from fabric of 100% recycled plastic fibers, without any added dyes. Our fair-trade production processes use 65% less energy and reduce greenhouse emissions by 35%.
Actually, we pretty much cherish them. When they have questions about sunscreen, whether we make it or not, we give them our full unbiased info and opinions. In the rare instances when they have problems or complaints concerning our products, we do all we can to make them happy.
Besides making human-friendly, eco-friendly products, we give a portion of our profits and our time to support well-run coastal and oceanic conservation and cleanup organizations. We consider this vital to help preserve fun sunny days for generations to come.
